Nashville 17th May 1801
Sir Inclosed you will receive a statement, with the vouchers, of the funds disbursed by me, out of the monies heretofore remitted by you as Treasurer of the board of Trustees of the University — This Statement would have been earlier transmitted but for the delay, or negligence of [?]the collectors.
I have proposed to the Committee acting under the Presidency of Col. Thos. Blount that they should authorize the purchasing two blank Books for the purpose of platting the Lands, with such interferences as may [discovered?] [?] in them, with proper notes to each platt, showing the interferences, with the number of acres taken & remaining, and every other remark that may appear to be necessary — One of those books to be transmitted to the Committee, the other to be kept by the agent. This will put the Trustees in full possession of the nature & certainty of the situation of their lands. In order to complete this business it would be necessary to forward all grants in their possession, to me, particularly the one for 2360 acres, and a 228 in the name of Thomas Evens, lying on Gaspers or [Markers?] Creek to join
Kuykendalls [pre?ption]
Believing the committee would adopt the mode recommended, as far as they had again convened (which I understood would not be until a general meeting on account of Mr Jones’s declining to act) I have hither deferred the information requested by you, on the subject of those lands, well knowing that any representations I could now make would be uncertain, and consequently unsatisfactory, but I will add that from the information I at present possess I find is proper to return [?] the following list for taxation viz
Montgomery 2360 acres on the mouth of Yellow Creek 428 acres, Peter [R. Keans?] on Budds Creek 428 acres, Jacob Robertson, on Yellow Creek 640 acres between blooming grove & cross creek 2246 acres, A. Cotgreave’s, Yellow Creek 398 ¾ acres on Guices Creek 267 ½ acres on Guices Creek 21 ¾ acres on Guices Creek } part of [?] lost I have those quantitys
Smyth County 1000 acres, Geo [Bea]’s, Tolleys Creek
Wilson Cty 1000 waters of [R?] Creek
Williamson Cty 640 [?] in 97 on Stewards Creek waters
Davidson 228 Thos. Even’s [S?] fork of Gaspers Creek joining Kuykendall pr lot in Nashville / 9858 –
The warrants for Cotgrave’s entry is supposed to be in the hands of [McCammel?] & wife in Surry County – Mrs McCammel, the widow of T. Evens who is supposed to have carried it from the office. It ought to be got and sent back.
