Charles Manly Esqr.
Dear Sir;
The receipt of
your letter, with accompanying Power, deto,
Ordinances &c, is hereby acknowledged.
There may be little use for an Escheator
in the countries of Cherokee & Mason; but
I shall always hold myself in readings
to serve my Alma mater in any & every
shape. I therefore accept the office your
partiatily has conferred and will use
my best endeavors to see that the rights
of the University are not neglected in
the countries assigned me.
With due respect, I am yours &c.
[Leon:?]: F. Siles

P.S. I would be greatly obliged to you to
remember me kindly to your nephew Basil
M. Thompson, who was my room-mate in
college for two or three years.
