My Dear Friend, Your’s of the 15th inst. reached me this morning and I hasten to answer it, though I am much engaged with the business of our Court which is now in session, It has been read with mingled surprise and sympathy and very greatly do I regret that the peace of yourself & family should have been disturbed by the reception of such a letter as has been addressed to Miss Annie, As you state that the writer is unknown to you, I will now inform you who she is You may remember writing to me in Dec 1856 when you were in quest of a governess & instructress for your children and requesting me to call on a Mrs West an English lady, who had but a short time before located herself in this community and at the insistance of Bishop Atkinson had applied to you for the situation of a teacher in your family. This lady afterwards married Dr. Medway a German, who had been living for some time at Smithville but who at the period of his marriage resided I think in Wilmington, and his wife is the writer of the communication addressed to your daughter and forwarded to me for my perusal, |
