Stormy -- AM cloudy - at noon a rain storm gradually set in, washing things nicely -- middle of PM changd to snow & kept up its lick -- Evening JB Jones addressed big audience at Opera House -- cannon, bonfires, etc -- I was on the stage, with rest of them, & afterward was in International B st panics with J.P., his bro Sam, Daggett & several others -- had wine & lots of stories, etc, a very pleasant party -- Bed 2 -- Still snowing lightly -- bout 2 or 3 inches --

Snow - Wintry Sutherland's Job office Louisiana Lottery Tickets bought

Sunday Nov 4

Cloudy & wintry -- fully 3 inches of snow on the ground this morning -- some of it melted but most of it remains -- PM Col Wm Sutherland gave a nice little reception at his new job printing office in the Black building -- Cor of C & Taylor sts -- beer, whisky, sandwiches, cake, etc -- Evening about town -- Much political buzzing -- Bed 2 -- freezing hard -- I bought from Jake Bauman, agent, on Friday evening last a ticket in the big Louisiana Lottery for $1 and one in the little Louisiana Lottery for 50 cents, total $1.50 -- Drawing to take place on the 10th inst -- Am now waiting for the lightning to strike me --

Same -- cloudy but somewhat pleasant -- General election -- Very lively of course -- Bands of music, etc, but no bad fighting etc -- I ran with it all day & till past midnight -- Bed at 1 -- tired -- all quiet -- etc -- great crowds during evening in front of the Enterprise and Chronicle offices reading the bulletin returns from the East -- special electic placed for the purpose -- much excitement, whooping, yelling & betting --

Clear & pleasant -- stood in on election possibilities -- etc -- Bed at 1 --

Grand Republican Victory

Thursday Nov 8

Clear & pleasant, but cold in the shade -- plenty of lively election talk & discussion -- The Republicans are conceded to have made a grand sweet and regain the Administration by large majorities everywhere -- Even carry West Va thus making the first break of the solid south -- Reps were jubilant and both parties astonished -- JK [Estep?] for county commissioner, Denis Kehoe Justice of the Peace & Coroner, Virginia, and Fank McKenney, Constable, Gold Hill the only Democrats elected in Storey County -- also 2 legislators -- Bed at 2 --

Same -- Republican victory news totally confirmed -- Bed 1

Same -- About as usual -- Received letter from Garrard enclosing telegram from J P Kimball Director of the Mint, Washington, saying footnote of my table B made Assessments of $119,000,000 in excess of dividend, when it should have been $59,000,000 -- I replied at once to Garrard, explaining, and telling him that $59,000,000 was correct & enclosing a telegram from me to Kimball to that effect, Evening Dan Morris Sullivan & his panorama crowd in "A Mirror of Ireland", at the Opera House -- Slim audience -- I didn't care to attend -- Bed at 2 -- Valley coal from T H Smith & Co, Gold Hill in the PM --

Same -- attended regular monthly meeting of exempts in the PM -- Bed at 12 --

Monday Nov 12

Clear & very pleasant -- PM wrote out a statement -- 5 pages -- from P J Keyes relative to the Keyes M. Co. -- Went to theater -- good house -- Play of "Virginius" -- Bed 1 --

Tuesday Nov 13

Cloudy -- Most of day occupied in rewriting & copying the Keyes statement -- 5 pages of foolscap -- 4 PM recd the following telegram -- "Meet me International tonight, and have Cathering Gregory where she can be seen -- AT Bedlam Auditor" Met him, also Chas R Kyle special agent, Bankers & Merchants Mutual Life Associa-

AT Bedlam Gregory Matter Settled

$5,000 -- I called on Mrs Gregory and informed her -- After they arrived I took them to an interview with CC Pendergast, the Administrator of Gregory's estate, at the Washoe Club room -- Lively chat -- They went to International -- I met Prendergast afterward at Club room & we had more talk -- Bed at 2 --

Wednesday Nov 14

Cloudy -- Was about town with Bedlam and Kyle -- made out to effect a statement in Gregory matter, she surrendering the policy & taking her chedk for $2,500 from the Co -- The other half, $2,500 was paid to young OM Gregory, the other beneficiary

Centennial sale postponed Snow Harry Symonds Killed

several weeks ago -- Bedlam and Kyle left on evening train, also P J Keyes, I saw them off -- Bed at 1 -- Very cloudy & threatening --

Thursday Nov 15

Same PM at Gold Hill -- sale of Centennial -- I got it postponed til Dec 10 -- Evening about town -- Light snow storm for an hour or so -- Got an item or two into Enterprise -- Bed 2 -- Capt Henry Symonds one of my best friends, Supt of the Como-Eureka, (old Monte Cristo) mine, Como, came to town today with his 2 horses -- & spring wagon on business - Got pretty drunk -- I was with him a little & when in Gold Hill saw him leave for Como -- Was thown out & fatally hurt.

Same -- PM light rain with flakes of snow for 3 or 4 hours -- muddy -- About town -- Evening met Billy Davis, President of the Exempts at International saloon, pretty drunk, took him home to his wife, way out on South C st -- Chapin House -- Bed 2

Saturday Nov 17

Cloudy & stormy -- AM about town -- PM went down to see north extension of the [Daney?] mine rode down on buckboard with Bill Trudgen & Jim Hardwich, the other partner rode horseback -- Took good look -- Rain set in & had to get back -- stopped at Silver CIty awhile -- Va at 5 PM -- Evening at Fred Burke's Arcade Saloon -- turkey feast -- played the banjo short time with Bob Evans & Josh Ely (guitar) -- Bed at 2 -- Snow 2 inch

Same -- About, as usual -- Evening met John Waters of Gold Hill who took out application Sept 24 -- gave me application just filled out by Dr [Poahn?], having passed 1st rate -- Also paid me the [requish?] $21 coin -- Bed at 1
