Friday Nov 1, 1889

Clear, cool & pleasant -- PM down to Gold Hill awhile -- Rode in the Evening train to Mound House with Bartine in order to talk with him -- back on the local at Bed at 1 --

Saturday Nov 2

Same -- About town -- Took evening train for Reno -- All right there -- Bed 10 --

Sunday Nov 3

Same -- AM I took off the fly screen doors, fixed up the upstairs windows, etc -- PM about town some -- Thalia Mitchell, niece of Gen Batterman with her sister Patty arrived this last week from South Britain, Conn, with Mrs Batterman who went on to Oakland, Cal, leaving them here, guests of Bob Lindsay & wife -- Miss Thalia visited us this PM & I made her aquaintance -- About 24 & a fine smart girl -- Bed at 9 -- Cold frosty night as usual --

With Thalia down the C & C Va mine -- Freezing Nevada Mill and Dynamo

Monday Nov 4

Clear cold & pleasant -- Miss Thalia Mitchell rode on train with me this AM to Va, I to show her the Comstock -- Got permit from Supt Leyman, and after lunch at the French Rotissirie we went down the C & C shaft, with Denis Coyette, foreman -- Went through the 1650 level and descended to the 1750 or Sutro Tunel level -- Went into the tunnel enough to realize its appearance -- Then we walked out to the

new Nevada mill, at the Choilar -- Went through it, & I saw her off on the evening train at 5:20, feeling very tired but gratified with what she had seen -- I rode with her to the Mound House & back -- Bed 12:30

Same -- About town -- Evening at Enterprise -- writing, reading proof, etc -- Bed 2 -- cold freezing nights --

RK Allen -- Frank Mayo in "Davy Crockett" Capt Kent fired out -- Pass renewed

Wednesday Nov 6

Same -- As usual -- Bed 2

Thursday Nov 7

Same -- RK Allen returned from Salt Lake & will stay over till tomorrow -- Evening at Opera House -- Frank Mayo and Company in "Davy Crockett" -- Good house -- better than the play deserved -- At Enterprise office -- Bed 2

Friday Nov 8

Same -- About town, & much with R K Allen General Manger of Bankers & Merchants Mutual Live Association, of which I am the agent here -- Also with Capt Kent and PK Faulds two traveling agents for the same concern -- both doing business, therefor on the Comstock -- Evening Enterprise -- Bed 2 -- In a controversy this PM about theB & M agencies, etc, Manager Allen, fired Kent out as an agent -- Evening received a pass from Yerington till end of year --

Same -- PM I presided at regular monthly meeting of the Exempts -- Evening about town as usual -- Bed 1 --

Monday Nov 11

Clear & pleasant -- AM took cars to Carson & back -- Went to see Frank Doten but didn't -- He returned from Bodie last Wednesday & went back on Saturday -- Has made his last trip for the season -- PM about town -- Evening at theater -- Patti Rosa and Company in play of "Bob" -- good house -- fair entertainment but nothing extra -- Only for tonight -- Bed 1:30 --

Tuesday Nov 12

Cloudy, windy, dusty, nasty day -- PM wrote letters to Frank B Doten, Bodie -- Yerington, acknowledging pass and to wife -- Letter from Bessie says Millie & her baby arrived Saturday -- Evening was at IOOF Hall at consolidation of Olive Branch No 12 with Nevada Lodge No 7 -- Big crowd from all the Comstock lodges -- also few

Exempts -- In a bad fix with inflamatory rheumatism -- Just able to walk -- gave him $20 on his interest in the association -- He will receive $7 per week sick benefits from now on -- He was glad to know that he was looked out for and said he would vigorously stand the devil off -- I fooled away an hour or so about the saloons, walked back & didn't go down town -- Bed 1 -- Met Jack [Bundigo] at GH this evening, who is going to fight a [scrap] with Kehoe next Saturday evening.

Same -- About town -- evening at Degree Lodge -- Saw 9 go through 3d degree -- Good big attendance -- I spoke -- Was at Enterprise -- wrote several items -- read proof -- Bed 2 --

Friday Nov 15

Same -- Evening looked in at "Lemon Party" ball at Opera House -- Pretty good crowd -- Bed 1:30 --

Saturday Nov 16

Same -- About town as usual -- Evening train & Reno -- Found Millie & baby there -- All right the rest -- Bed at 10 -- Millie's baby is a little very red headed girl -- Looks most like Ed, especially in the bluish gray eyes --

Sunday Nov 17

AM furious wind & dust -- PM cloudy -- down town -- also in evening -- Threatening weather -- Bed 10 --

RR Time change -- Wells Drury

Monday Nov 18

Light steady rain set in about 2 this morning & kept at it all day -- Took train for Va at 10:20 AM under new time table, which goes into effect today in accordance with similar change on the CP RR -- Arrived on new schedule time at Va at 1:10 PM -- About town -- Found letter from Wells Drury on the Examiner, SF enclosing a scrap or clipping he wrote in that paper, last January, in which he speaks of me and Baldy Green the Pioneer stage driver -- also enclosed photo of his little 7 mos boy -- I wrote letter in response, also wrote letter to wife enclosing Drury's letter etc -- Mailed both by the 6:20 train (under the change) -- Evening at Opera House -- Play of "Little Lord Fauntleroy" by company arrived today, for this one night -- Had a very good house, considering the storm -- Was about 2 inches of snow,

commencing early this morning & still going it, with furious winds -- Rainy all day in Reno -- Carson & elsewhere in this State -- Rained hard in Sacramento all yesterday PM & since -- Snowed well in the Sierra -- Wrote "Along the Railroad" & got it into the Enterprise, read proof etc, Bed at 2 -- Still snowing, and 6 or 8 inches deep -- The biggest snowstorm of the season thus far --
