State Convention -- Rep 1892 Alfie 15 -- Mars Occultates

Thursday September 1, 1892

Cloudy but pleasant -- Attended the regular portion of the split convention at Armory Hall, The other one went ahead all the same at the Court House. Evening I telegraphically reported convention to Enterprise. Both branches closed today -- Bed 12 -- cold --

Friday Sept 2

Clear & pleasant -- About town --- Evening at home -- Bed 10 -- Alfie's birthday -- 15 yrs old -- His voice has recently changed to a bullfrog tone.

Saturday Sept 3

Same -- Bowels troublesome -- About home -- Bed 12 -- Evening I observed the occultation of Mars -- passing behind the moon. Commenced about 9:30 and ended 10:40 -- I obseved it through Sam's telescope. Very interesting.

Sunday Sept 4

Same -- At home all day at odd jobs -- Evening down town -- Bed 10 --

Peoples Convention -- Bad Cramp -- Corbett-Sullivan Fight Mrs Batterman -- Big Guns

Monday Sept 5

Clear & pleasant -- Peoples convention at Opera House - I attended -- Bad cramp in stomach about noon -- lasted about 4 hours -- cured in 15 minutes by a dose of peppermint -- Bed 11 --

Wednesday Sept 7

Evening down town -- Big crowd at the Russ House taking in the telegrams of the Corbett-Sullivan prize fight -- Big excitement all over town -- At 10:10 Mrs Batterman came on train from Oakland, Cal, on her way to Aspen, Colorado to see her son Chris. Wife & I were at train to see her. Bed 12.

Thursday Sept 8

Same -- 82 degrees -- PM took ride out to race track with Charley Stoddard, Secy of the Agricultural Association -- took full observations -- At 6:30 PM the three big cannons passed through for the (Monterey,) San F. Bed 11 --

Big Summit Snowshed fire -- Gold Hill Schoolhouse fire New Bank of Nevada corner stone -- Democrats split

Friday Sept 9

Same -- Bed 11 --

Saturday Sept 10

Same -- hotter -- 90 degrees -- No train from west today -- Big fire at Summit -- Miles of snowsheds burned -- Bed 10

Sunday Sept 11

Same -- at home -- all day -- Trains from Cal got through about 3 o'clock AM, road clear and all, trains running. Was about town evening short time -- Bed 11 --

Monday Sept 12

Same -- 90 degrees -- About as usual -- Bed 11 -- One of the big schoolhouses in Gold Hill burned last evening at 8 o'clock -- Totally destroyed.

Tuesday Sept 13

Same -- 2 PM attended laying of corner stone of new Bank of Nevada building -- Hon CC Fowning made the speech -- Bed 11 --

Wednesday Sept 14

Same -- Democratic State Central Com met at Carson -- Split and regulars made full ticket nominations -- Bed 12 --

Back to the Comstock -- Hay Fever -- N S G W Badge Journal written up by Matt Gillespie -- County Records

Thursday Sept 15

Borrowed $20 and at 1:45 PM left for Va -- Arr at 7:10 -- Got in work on Enterprise, and bed at 2:30 -- Hay fever starting in onto me. On my arrival at Va today I found in my Post office box among other letters one from Fred W Clough, Three Rivers, Tulare county, dated Visalia Sept 8 '92 enclosing a souvenir badge of the Native Sons of the Golden West of which he is one -- Very fine & appropriate badge: gold bear on top and silver medallion beneath about size of silver dollar, appropriately inscribed, connected by a short red white & blue ribbon arrangement --

Clear & much cooler -- 60 degrees -- Politix* hot -- Stewart in town -- I put in an ad in Enterprise announcement that am candidate for county recorder -- Bed at 1 -- This PM Matt Gillespie found me at my room -- He is just up from Los Angeles on brief visit -- Looks natural -- Not seen him for about 7 yrs

Same -- About town -- Dined with Charley Noe at International 5 PM. Put on my old Watch, this evening with my portrait on the face taken by Charley Noe about 25 yrs ago -- Bed 1 -- Republican primaries today for County Convention Thursday --

Thursday Sept 22

Same -- County Republican Convention at National Guard Hall -- I was Secretary, but knowingly got left on the Recordership proposition. Evening, about town among the old boys -- Bed at 12 -- Have the hay fever bad. Nose plugged, eyes sore, etc. Got

Stock Boom -- Newlands and Stewart Rain Shower -- County Weaver -- Silver Convention

Saturday Sept 24

Same -- About town -- Attended to some big for Charley Noe, relative to settling up his deceased mother's estate -- Bed 2 -- Stocks booming higher than for last 3 or 4 years -- Good ore strike in Belcher the cause -- upper levels Belcher up above $6 yesterday and $5 today -- All stocks "Sympathize" Newlands and Stewart addressed the people on the political situation at Opera House this evening. Big crowd -- I there --

Same -- About town -- Evening much caucusing by the Weaver Silver Party at room in the Doylan building for tomorrow's convention -- Bed 12:30 --

Monday Sept 26

Clear & pleasant -- Quite a lively rain shower about 1 AM for a few minutes -- laid dust for morning a little. Big Silver Weaver Convention today -- Opera House in PM & evening -- "I was with 'em" -- Bed at 2 --
