Saturday March 31

Clear & pleasant -- Bed at 12 -- Yesterday forenoon & this AM I got in good house work washing up dirty clothes which have accmulated on me -- "good jobbie" --

Sunday April 1, 1894

Cloudy and rather blustering -- dusty -- PM met in committee with Plunkett and Guggenheium, at G's store, and P. submitted his pencilled draft of our revision and correction of the Exempt Constitution, and by-laws -- He has now to place it in good style on the record book of the Association. Received a letter from R E Preston, Director of the Mint, Washington, D.C. saying: "Referring to telegrams heretofore exchanged between us, I have to say that the appropriation for the collection of statistics of the production of gold and silver is such that I do not deem it advisable to incur any expenditure for an article on the Comstock Lode. Regretting my inability to do so, I am, Very respectfully, R E Preston, Director of the Mint. Also rec'd letter from wife, Oakland, Cal, & one from Kinzle, Nevada City -- Bed 1 --

" " Evening attended lecture of "Mr" Crittendon, evangelist, at Presbyterian church -- good house -- mostly women -- Greatest talker I ever heard -- talks more & said less than anybody.

Localized on Chronicle 1894 Louis Reick dead -- H J Harris memorial Exempt Const & by-laws finally adopted Mr C N Crittendon the Evangelist

Clear and pleasant -- In accordance with arrangement made yesterday I localized on the Chronicle today in place of Scott, who went to Carson today on business. Got along nicely -- Bed at 12 -- Louis Reick, one of the oldest Comstockers and a Pacific Coast Pioneer & proprietor of the Nevada Brewery, Six mile canyon, died at 1:30 this morning at his residence

Same -- PM I attended regular monthly meeting of the Exempts -- Made final report on Constitution & By-Laws -- all complete & entered up by Secretary -- Report accepted and Committee discharged -- Also reported Memorial Tribute on death of Bro H J Harris -- adopted -- Bed at 11 --

1894 -- A Chapter on Dreams

Monday April 9

Clear warm & very pleasant -- Bed at 12 -- Last Friday night I dreamed of finding some very rich ground or decomposed quartz or ledge matter, just "lousy" with gold both coarse and fine, and all ragged and rusty & dirty -- mixed up with reddish dirt -- but so rich -- a pound or two of purse gold to every pan -- coarse lumps from an ounce down and large pieces of rock, ten pounds and less, yellow with gold -- Waked up feeling awful rich -- the richest dream of my life in that line -- Saturday night I had a continuation or second edition of the same dream but little modified -- Last night I dreamed I was in California, somewhere, flat broke and making my way to the Midwinter Fair on foot -- When I got there I didn't like it -- considered it a foggy, soggy, unpopular sort of an affair and

in fact got so disgusted and exasperated with the whole snide outfit, and the foggy, cold weather and my own impecuniously uncomfortable condition and situation that I waked up feeling anything but rich, and not happy except in knowing it was but a dream -- Wonder what I'll dream tonight? Mr Crittendon, the evangelist, had a crowded audience last evening -- all the church could possibly hold. McGurn and Crampton completed clearing the Geiger Grade of remaining snow drifts.

Tuesday April 10

Clear, cooler & very blustering and dusty -- Bed 12 -- The Geiger Grade being cleared of last snow drifts and open for travel, McGurn's stages resumed running between here and Reno today for the season -- About 3 weeks earlier than usual --

1894 "Spider and Fly" -- John Church Dead

Wednesday April 11

Clear & pleasant but cool -- Freezing in shade all the AM -- M B Leavitt's "Spider and Fly" Comedy Co arrived on morning train -- Big crowd on street witnessed their arrival -- Evening I was at Opera House -- crowded -- Best house & best entertainment for many a day -- Big troupe, with 15 or 20 women -- Not much of a play but lots of incidents -- Splendid dancing & lots of it -- all high kickers -- as high as can be yet in long skirts, & no lady in that big audience could see anything indecent or all ob-

jectionable -- That and the acrobatic interlude -- The acrobats were the features -- acrobats the best and slickest anybody here ever saw -- March of the Amazons was splendid -- Bed at 12 -- John Church, who first intoduced me into newspaper business on the Comstock is dead, according to SF Chronicle of the 10th -- God bless him and the devil miss him -- Bed at 12 --

Wife in Reno -- Sam in San F -- Kinzle 1894 Practical Printers

Got letter from wife -- Returned to Reno on the 3d inst -- wrote me on the 7th -- also yesterday -- Sam still at Oakland, & likely to stay in Cal till his round trip ticket expires, on the 23d inst. Having good time -- Wife inclosed letter from Bessie, Santa Clara -- Seth in bad state of health & on last legs -- Bessie was with Sam and their mother at Oakland, Sausalito & Midwinter Fair a few days ago. Wrote & sent letter to wife this evening also one to M Kinzle, Nevada City, inclosing coupons, etc.

Thursday April 12

Same -- Bed 12 -- Evening at Methodist church -- Crittendon revival -- It was transferred thither last evening & will stay there to a finish on next Sunday evening -- Church well filled --
