Same -- 90[degrees] and hottest of season -- Bed 12 --

Briggs -- Evans -- On Enterprise Local -- 1894 "A Cruelly Foul Injustice." -- Annual Mint cleanup

Friday Aug 3

Clear & pleasant -- Took John Briggs to interview Evans, at 2 PM -- Evening I went on Enterprise in place of Norris who left for SF on short visit -- Got along well -- Bed 2 --

Saturday Aug 4

Same -- worked on Entrprise as yesterday -- At noon was with John Briggs to see Evans -- affected sale of right to use his amalgamating compound and [riffles?], etc, also four silvered copper plates -- 12x24 -- for $30 -- $10 of which I am to get -- I wrote the agreement of sale, & witnessed it. Bed at 2:30 --

Sunday Aug 5

Same -- Wrote a card for Marshall Hatch: "A Cruelly Foul Injustice" Evening visited Evans -- Bed 12 -- Was introduced by L [Elrod?] of the Carson Mint this AM on C street to Butters and Braddock, two experts from Washington

1894 -- Centennial paid -- Off the local Bryant and Gregory -- Carson Mint Cleanup

Monday Aug 6

Clear warm & pleasant -- Rode in a buggy to Gold Hill at noon -- to James' Gold Hill Assay office -- delinwuent sale day for Centennial -- I paid $5 for Hitchcock, $4.93 for Dan Hanifan, $5, $3 & $1 for myself -- $18.93 in all -- James rode back to Va with me -- Evening on the Enterprise again as Norris failed to return -- Bed 4 --

Same -- Bed 3:30 --

Wednesday Aug 8

Same -- Bed 12 -- Norris returned today, so I am off the local & out of a job again -- Evening I visited Evans --

Hitchcock -- A summer Frost -- 1894 Kinzle -- Wife -- Sisters' Hospital Picnic

Thursday Aug 9

Cloudy -- Bed 12 -- Sent letter to J H Hitchcock, San Jose, Cal, inclosing receipt for $5, for his assessment on Centennial, which I paid last Monday -- Also sent letter to wife -- Evening visited Evans -- Bed 12 --

Cloudy & variable but pleasant & cool -- Registered at office of Justice of the Peace for the coming election this Fall -- general election -- No 310, age 65 -- Sent 3 page letter to Kinzle, Nevada City, also 3 page letter to wife -- Evening visited Evans -- Bed 1 --

Saturday Aug 11

Clear & very pleasant -- Grand picnic today, at Sisters' Hospital for benefit of the institution -- cleared probably $2,000 -- Evening Evans -- Bed 12 --

1894 -- Zuicksilver -- Evans Republican primaries & Silver Party

Same -- PM attended regular monthly meeting of Exempts -- Gave in report of Finance Committee -- semi-annual -- I as chairman -- adopted -- Evening visited Evans -- Bed 12 --

Monday Aug 13

Clear warm & pleasant -- 78 degrees -- Rec'd from Reno a 5 lb bottle of quicksilver I wrote to wife about -- Evening took Col L D Boyle to interview Evans -- Bed 12 --

Tuesday Aug 14

Same -- The Republican primaries today for delegates to the State Convention

Tuesday Aug 21

Variable & very warm -- Bought 2 oz nitrate of silver -- $1 per oz and 4 oz sodium for $1, 50 total $3,50. Got quicksilver, silver amalgam, etc, & 4 PM was at Evans' room in American Exchange -- We started making a batch

Wednesday Aug 22

86 degrees -- Same -- Evans rode with Daget down to his mill lower part of Silver City -- Evening I visited Evans for about 3 hours -- Bed at 12 -- Last night for several hours, apparently, my mind wrestled vividly with the wording of a wonderfully diplomatic and prophetic dream. It troubled my slumering rest so very persistently that at last I was obliged to arise to light my lamp, and write it out word for word, as I had dreamed it. After that I laid down and went to lseep very contentedly. My dream was to the effect that the United States government once more under the rule of the grand old Republican party was receiving messages, of congratulation from all nations -- Among them was the following: "Chile

Prophetic and Diplomatic Dream 1894 -- Bistolfi and Montanelli -- Hot Weather

observes with congratulatory admiration the proudly prosperous position of the United States among the nations of the world. And in view of the recent addition of two still longer and stronger stocks to the rods of power, in the hand of her noble sister Republic, she can only bow in willing respect and submission to her fate."
