Wednesday Oct 31

Variable -- cold -- PM I wrote out a three page legal ( ) statement of the Keyes mine for P J Keyes & delivered it to him -- Evening big Rep rally -- Bonfires, music etc -- Opera House -- Cleveland and Bartine -- crowded house -- Norris the Enterprise reporter attended and reported and I filled in the regular business of the office for him -- Through at 12 -- Bed 2 -- clear & cold.

Thursday November 1

Clear cool & pleasant -- PM General A J Warner from Ohio, who came from the East with Seator J P Jones -- addressed a grand full audience at the Opera House -- I was there a short time -- He spoke for nearly 2 hours -- Fine looking 6 ft 3 old man of about 67 years -- Started back for Ohio tonight -- J P Jones came with him, but got off at Gold Hill and stayed there. I was filled in on the Enterprise, Norris working a minstrel performance for the benefit of the Episcopal church -- I got through & bed at 3 --

Saturday Nov 3

Same -- Evening at Opera House -- Biggest rally of the Campaign of the Silver party -- Bonfires, 5 on C st & 1 on B, opposite the theater -- Brass band, Comstock Glee Club, etc -- One of the largest audiences I ever saw in that building. It was jammed full and many had to go away unable to get in -- There was not less than 1700 people -- the full capacity of the house standing room, boxes, stage and all -- I was at reporter table on the stage -- but not reporter for anything -- Frank Newlands spoke first, for an hour, followed by Senator J P Jones for about 1 1/2 hours -- Both principally on the silver and monetary problem -- Both did better than I ever heard them -- Jones arrived at Gold Hill Thursday and has

staid there till brought or escorted up, this evening by several carriage loads of citizens to the theater -- After the show was over, Con Ahern of the Crystal Saloon had the band playing in front and shot off a lot of fireworks, rockets, etc, and after closing, had the glee club, Newlands, the Sherms etc inside singing, dancing drinking etc for couple of hours -- I was with them awhile -- Bed 2 -- Fixed up my statement, 3 pages and another for Charley Nuttall for Pat Keyes and sore mine before Charley Mack, Notary and Atty for Keyes -- Shook hands with Jones after lecture --

Same -- All getting ready for the big election tomorrow -- I fixed up the sample ballots of Jose Salinas and Janior Wm Brady -- Evening about town some -- Populist speaking from stand erected front of the Enterprise office. Speakers were Doughty, Curler and ((Blank)) -- Bed at 2 -- "Just Before the Battle"

Tuesday Nov 6

Clear & pleasant -- Grand general election -- Liveliest I have seen for years -- 2 bands of music all day, from 9 AM, till polls closed at 6 PM -- Carriages with flags etc rushing wild -- little boys, dogs, goats etc placarded, traveling the streets -- etc -- Got in my ballot about 4 PM -- Pretty straight Republican with exception of Hunt Clerk and Dist Atty and Dave Lazier for co-commissioner -- Considerable excitment during

1894 -- Big Republican Triumph -- Senator Jones leaves and I send Him a letter -- Con Va Dividend, 25 cts

Same -- Only excitement over election telegrams and local returns -- Mostly Rep -- Bed 12 -- Senator Jones left for San Francisco and Santa Monica tonight --

Thursday Nov 8

Same -- PM I wrote & sent a three page letter to Senator Jones, Palace Hotel, San Francisco -- Also letter to wife -- Bed 12 -- Con Va declared a dividend 25 cts today

Same -- Sent another letter to wife -- PM was at office of Gotth Haist mining & civil engineer and fixed up his statement in Keyes mining suit -- Keyes leaves for San F with about 20 such statements; including mine -- on Sunday or Saturday -- Evening at Theater -- Ezra Kendall and comic specialty company -- 10 persons -- Pretty good and amusing -- Good House -- Bed 1 --

Monday Nov 12

The same clear "Indian Summer" weather that we have enjoyed for the last week or two. Streets dry and dusty, as not been sprinkled this month as County can't afford street sprinkler any more. About town as usual -- Bed at 11:30 -- George R Paynter, heretofore editor of the Enterprise, having quite about a week ago, Fred J Norris, local reporter now fills both departments. Paynter goes into mining and chicken ranch business on Six-mile canyon. George Brown ex-sheriff of this county, and lastly Deputy Supt of State prison, died there this morning of pneumonia -- 55 yrs old -- Was here knocking around lively election day, being a registered voter here -- rode home that night in a carriage, contracted his death --
