near Manzanillo, Mexico, Monday night -- Boiler busted or something of the kind -- nearly 200 on board -- one of her boats reached Manzanillo with 21 -- rest not heard from -- She was about 3,000 tons ( ) --

Friday May 31

Cloudy, cold & variable -- Evening light rain squalls from westward -- Big snow clouds coming rolling over the Sierra -- Wrote and sent letter to wife -- Bed at 12 -- snowing hard -- Wintry wind-up for May -- Most of the small fruits are destroyed by the late frosts and some of the big fruits also -- about Carson -- good crop left.

"Capitol Notes" -- A Big June Snowstorm -- 1895 Mrs Joe Miller arrives from Austin -- M Freeman Brunswick Lake Movement -- Mrs Hartley denied Pardon

Saturday June 1

Cloudy -- variable -- PM wrote & sent "Capitol Notes" to Journal. Bed 12 -- Snowed heavily at Va last night -- early this morning showed about 5 inches on roofs, awning & sidewalks, etc & whole face of the country looked decidedly Wintry -- But it melted off before night -- streets very muddy -- The roofs of the local train from there this morning were covered well with snow -- Pretty good for the first of June --

Sunday June 2

Clear, cool & pleasant -- Joe Miller's wife arrived from Austin to visit him during this his fourth and last week of the Keeley Cure -- He ends Friday -- Bed 11 --

Monday June 3

Same -- warmer -- Attended & reported Mrs Hartley's case in Board of Pardons. Denied pardon. Sent letter to M Freeman, 967 Euclid st, St Paul, Minnesota -- A big movement being made among the Comstock mines to work the Brunswick lode, a mile east of the Comstock, from the Sutro tunnel level -- Bed at 12 --

Pickler Bullion Steal Excitement -- 82° Pickler arrested -- $1,000 bonds -- Hot Weather $10 Journal -- $10 Tribune -- To Virginia City Heney caught

Tuesday June 4

Clear & pleasant -- 80° -- PM great excitement about bullion being found in possession of Wm Pickler of the Mint, supposed to have been stolen from there -- Sam Davis & I investigated & reported -- I sent letter to Journal -- Bed 12 --

Wednesday June 5

Same, warmer -- 82° -- Pickler was arrested by Govt officers today on charge of grand larceny and filed bond with US Commissioner Edwards to appear before him for examination next Tuesday in sum of $1,000 with Otto Schultz and Ed Burlington securities -- Bed at 12 --

Thursday June 6

Same -- Heney arrested in Arizona yesterday -- $10 rec'd fron Journal -- Borrowed $10 from the Tribune -- left on the 5 o'clock local train for Va -- Was at Enterprise office and wrote an item on Heney -- Bed at 1 --

Friday June 7

Clear & pleasant -- Rode to Gold Hill on morning local -- paid my Centennial assessments -- $14 -- delinquent yesterday -- Back to Va on noon express -- Found old Joe Douglass had removed some of my room fixings -- Left on 5:10 express train for Carson -- Bed at 12 --

Saturday June 8

Same -- I applied to Yerington for a free pass, and he gave me one for a month over the V & T RR -- Met Greeley French this evening -- just arrived in town -- His wife got a thigh broke, by runaway of Geo Barton's Silver City Stage in Gold Hill at 3 PM -- she jumped out -- Read about it in Va Chronicle of this evening -- Told him, & he got a horse & cart & left for Silver -- Sent "Capitol Notes" to Journal -- Bed 12 --

1895 -- Heney Captured at Last !!! Wife -- Plunkett -- Frozen out of my Room at Virginia My Free Pass Ride -- At Gold Hill -- Collected Centennial Bill -- $23 -- Mrs Joe Miller --

Sunday June 9

80° -- Sent letter to Fred Plunkett, Va & one to wife -- Heney surrendered himself at Leadville, Col, yesterday and is on his way to Carson in charge of US Marshal Humphrey -- At 5 PM took my first free ride on my new free pass to Va -- Found my room occupied by a Mr Daniels -- Had to lodge at

Monday June 10

Same -- About town -- Took evening train to Carson -- Heney was thought to have arrived at Reno, and this PM Mrs Heney, with their Attorney, Bill Woodburn were driven in a rockaway to Reno to meet him and perhaps bring him up to Carson -- Bed 12 -- I rode on train to Gold Hill this morning -- collected Centennial advertising bill -- annual meeting & assessment notices -- $8 for one & $15 for the other -- $23.00 -- walked back over the Divide -- Got $2.25 for the collection -- Mrs Joe Miller was on the train, returning from a visit to Va --

1895 -- Heney at Home in Carson -- Joe Miller and Wife leave Journal -- Heney put in jail

Tuesday June 11

Clear, warm & pleasant -- 81° -- Heney arrived about 2 PM in the rockaway; he & wife on back seat, Major Dennis Deputy US Marshal on front seat with Jim Raycraft the driver -- drove to his residence & left him & wife -- Remains in custody of the Marshal till next Saturday, when his bail bond will be fixed. He was about town considerably in the PM -- I met him -- He is an old acquaintance -- Used to work as a miner in Gold Hill when I was there -- Looks fine & feels so. Joe Miller went to Reno yesterday to attend meeting of Grand Lodge F & AM -- wife went down to join him today & they will take a short trip over in California, then home to Austin -- Bed at 1 --

Same -- 84° -- hot -- Heney's bond was fixed at $25,000 this PM today at 4 PM, failing to procure more than $15,000 of which, he was put in the county jail for safe keeping -- I sent letter to Journal -- Bed at 12 --
