Same -- Big crowd and celebration -- nearly 1,000 from the Comstock section and 600 from Reno -- over 2,000 in all from outsde -- A.P.A. materially assisted, had their own flag in the procession -- "A.P.A." -- Bed12 -- tired --

Thursday July 11

Same - Annual Great Council of the "Red Men" at Odd Fellows Hall -- Got through at 11 PM, and had banquet at the Briggs House - I was invited & attended & made a little speech - Nice little time for an hour -- Bed at 1 -- About 100 at table, the three Tribes of this State being represented -- Piute, Pocahontas and Apache -

Same - Met Lawyer Henry Mayenbaum, who was in Austin when I was there -- Here on law business - came this morning & left in evening - Headquarters San F - Not seen him since I left Austin - Got me a new coat & vest today -- $5.00 - Bed 12 -

Same -- hottest -- 91° -- Jim Rule the old Comstock mining boss died in S.F. yesterday -- I sent $5 by Conductor Blay, morning express train toward my Exempt dues -- Evening sent a 2 page letter to Joe Miller, Austin -- Very hot sultry day -- 91° in the shade at 2 PM -- Bed at 11 -- commenced wearing my new coat & vest today --

Same -- letter from wife & Bessie, who will be home to Reno in a day or two -- Wrote to wife in response this evening -- Bed 12 --

Same -- warmer -- 86° -- My 66th birthday -- Was at the train at 10 AM -- J P Jones and family on board bound for Gold Hill -- I had quite a chat with him during the 10 minutes the train stopped -- He was accompanied by his wife & 2 daughters, Len Hamilton & daughter, and Harry Gorham & wife -- Bed 12 --

Same -- Took morning train to Gold Hill, on my half fare pass, Yerington refusing me renewal of free pass -- Visited Senator Jones 2 hours, $5 -- Back on evening train -- Bed 12 -- Met S W Chubbuck, my old Gold Hill confrere,

this evening at the Arlington Hotel -- Haven't seen him since we left Gold Hill -- He is with Wells Fargo & Co, at Oakland, as clerk, etc -- John J Valentine, manager -- Has just returned from an outing at Lake Tahoe (McKinney's) with a 16 yrs old son of J J Valentine -- same name -- Going up to Gold Hill tomorrow, & then home to Oakland --

Same -- Hot -- 90° -- PM wrote & sent letter to J A Miller, Austin inclosing 300 shares Centennial -- Evening as usual -- Bed 12 -- Bill Beard left for Reno -- "Porcupine Bill" -- en route for his home in Eureka -- Will stop over at Reno for a few days -- Miss Lilly Snyder, my best assistant when I was Engrossing clerk, returned home to Carson yesterday from a 3 years absence in New York where she has been employed editorially on the New York World, and the Sun.
