Same -- "Buttermilk Jake" (Cardiff Giant) sentenced to 18 months in the State Prison, and fine of $25 -- Ah Jim, 10 months in the Storey County jail and $10 -- The 12 jurymen in Jones panel were discharged & paid off -- The 15 remaining of the venire were excused til the 20th inst -- Coffin's case came up on demurrer, and motion to quash the indictment -- Argued & taken under advisement, & court adjourned to Monday next at 10 AM -- Bed at 1 --

Variable -- Fine shower in early morning -- Coffins demurrer sustained, and indictment quashed in court this morning -- Sent letter to Journal, & one to Webster -- The Daily Nevada Tribune, Parkinson's paper, so many years in Carson suspended publication with its issue of yesterday -- Sold to a Reno party & going there.

Stormy -- Several snowsqualls during the day, from 6 AM whitened the ground but mostly melted as it fell -- New heels to shoes today -- Evening at the Opera House -- Georgia Ministrels -- Good house and performance -- Nothing very new, but amusing -- Bed at 1 -- Very cold & wintry -- Accidentally slipped & tumbled today laming my left knee cap considerably, & making me walk stiff-legged --

Same -- PM cleared off some -- A telegram from San F says that Governor Jones died there at 5:50 PM -- Flags on State Capitol and all over town displayed at half-mast -- Vaughn at Reno, found guilty of murder in the first degree by Jury at 9 AM -- at 1:30 PM when Deputy Sheriff, went to the jail for Vaughn to receive his sentence in court, he found him insensible from morphine -- Doctors couldn't save him and he died at 9:45 PM --
