Same -- A little above freezing this morning -- Republican State Convention at the Opera House -- I reported it & sent to Journal -- Adjourned at 6 PM sine die -- Had to have fire in the Opera House stoves today to keep warm -- Cold, raw evening -- Bed 12 (see report of Republican State Convention, Carson, on next page.)
The Escaped Convict -- 95 -- J P Jones Captured and Taken Back to State Prison
Friday Sept 11
Fair and warmer -- Evening sent letter to Senator Jones, Washington D.C. -- Bert Gafford, the escaped convict, was discovered and captured about 11 last evening at the house at Cradlebaugh's bridge on Carson river a few miles up the valley from Carson and only 8 miles from the prison. Had got lost in the Pine-Nut section finally wandering to where he was found -- Reward of $200 offered for him -- He was recognized by a woman of the house from decription and finally taken back to prison -- She gets the reward -- He was in for seven years but now will have to stay much longer --
