110 -- Ormsby District Fair -- Sixth and Last Day Bicycle Parade in the Evening -- Horses "Plugged"

Saturday October 3

Same -- 80° -- Last day of the Fair -- good crown from Reno and some from Va & elsewhere -- Wound up this evening with a splendid bicycle parade on main streets -- Wheels and riders decorated, lanterns, flags, music, etc -- Horses "plugged" down at track stables this evening --

1896 -- Big Baseball Game -- Reno Beats -- 11 Virginia 14 to 3 -- Aftermath of the Fair Senator Jones Arrives at Gold Hill Dempseys Vindication -- "Mining Gossip"

Reno beat 14 to 3 -- Big crowds from both places -- Relay bicycle race, 50 miles, finished -- Horse and cattle men, sports, etc all getting out -- Fair ended-- Letter to wife -- Bed 12 --

Monday Oct 5

Same -- A few of the horsemen, sports and hobos still there -- otherwise town assumed its normal quietude -- Wrote and published a string of "Mining Gossip" in the news (see next page) --- Senator Jones arrived from the East, went up from Reno in a private carriage over the Geiger Grade, through Virginia to Gold Hill last evening -- accompanied by C C Powning & Harry Gorham -- Dempsey procured the publishment of this card, to vindicate himself, from the charge of his keeping a bad house over his saloon -- made to hurt him, politically in his aspirations for the Assembly --

114 -- Bessie -- Ladies' Relief Corps Visit Comstock Sept payroll $63,255.66 -- Hay Fever

Clear & pleasant -- Letter from Bessie, Santa Clara -- Evening the Ladies' Relief Corps, & Grand Army Vets came down from Virginia on special car as guests of their Carson Contemporaries -- Had grand banquet, and reunion, and went home on their special at midnight -- Comstock payrolls for September, $63,255.66 -- Bed 12 -- badly plugged nose and sore eyed hay fever --

Same -- At noon today I registered as a voter, for the first time in Carson -- Dr Herrick's funeral this afternoon was well attended -- about 30 carriages -- Met Keyes at the train this morning, on way back to Va -- Says our suit was continued till after election, as Senator Perkins, an interested party is out stumping the state politically -- Carrie Clarke Ward and an amateur dramatic Co played "Married Life in Reno" last evening to a full audience at the Opera House, Reno --

arrived this morning to try and pull off the long pending fight between Corbett and Fitzsimmons -- The Nevada Stars beat the Alerts of Oakland in a baseball game at SF today -- Jack Mulcahy, the "Cowboy Preacher" or "Broncho Jack" and wife discoursed on the street this PM & evening to plenty of people -- They came up from Reno -- Bishop Grace, successor to Bishop Manogue, held forth at the Catholic church today, and confirmed about 60 young people -- about all girls --
