evening, $1.25 second and $1 tonight -- Judge Rives' wife died out at Salt Lake yesterday -- The Clarke fire occurred about 6 PM, when the

water presume is lowest and the supply the least, throughout the town -- Thus the fire had pretty much its own way, aided by a nice breeze from the west. Only one story high, but noted as one of the most homelike mansions of Carson, giving more receptions, socials, lawn parties, evening entertainments etc than any -- fine orchard surrounding it, beautiful grassy lawn, etc -- AM the furniture, piano, books, painting, carpets, etc were saved by neighborly assistance -- Nothing saved from the attic or upstairs, Major Willis Clarke, the General's brother roomed upstairs -- lost everything except the clothes he stood in -- General Clarke was in Reno attending Court, but was telegraphed to and came up in a buggy -- Any of the patent fire extinguishers, or even a good sized syringe could easily have put out the fire when it was first discovered burning about the stovepipe or chimney flue -- Carson has a pretty good volunteer fire department, but not equal to an occasion like this, especially without the requisite water -- The fruit and ornamental trees and shrubbery around the residence were not materially injured --

J R White -- Folsom vs Marlette -- W.H.T.D. Durrant Reprieved till July 9 -- Salvation Collections Maher-Sharkey Fight Coming Here
