Thursday Feb 9

Same -- Both houses of the Legislature held AM & PM sessions & adjourned till Monday, in order to visit Reno & the State institutions tomorrow -- by invitation for inspection etc -- Letter from wife says mother has a paralytic stroke of half her body & may not live more than a day or two, etc -- I wrote her a reply this evening & sent it -- Also sent letter to Judge Wm Webster of the Reno Journal, explaining that it was the fault of his office that my report of the Legislature failed to be received last Monday evening, by the Journal man not taking it from the Post office when the mail was distributed -- Also sent regular report as usual -- Bed 12 --

Friday Feb 10

Same -- Mother Stoddard's sickness in the Reno Journal this morning -- PM I wrote & sent 3 page letter about 650 words, to Tribune -- Evening wrote similar one & mailed it for tomorrow to the Chronicle dated 11th -- Bought me a new dark brown hat at Abe Cohn's for $2 -- Worked late in State House on my Chronicle letter -- till 11 oclock 3 1/2 pages, about 700 words -- Bed 12 --
