a first class white printer, etc, employed to run the printing dpt & [track?] the Indian boys & girls compositions -- Exceedingly well made up & printed, interesting reading matter, etc -- PM wrote & sent letter to wife inclosing copy of Indian Advance -- Evening Warde & Sachett's comedians played "A Bachelor's Honeymoon" at Opera House to fair audience -- Got letter from Webster Patterson, Atty, Elko, returning my papers in my Vardy case giving up as a bad job trying to collect my bill from Vardy -- Sent telegram to Van Duzer, Winnemucca at 10 AM -- Letter just received -- Send forty -- will write -- All's well -- cost 40 cents --

Same -- Rec'd letter from Van Duzer, with PO order for $5 -- the first I have received from that resource -- PM was down town as far as Geo H Meyers, and Ed Walchs stores consulting on my pay for Carson write up --

Sunday Sept 3

Same -- PM remodeled a six bit black shirt I bought this AM & when after 5 hours it was completed -- I put it on and found it about 2 sizes 2 small -- could hardly get in and out of it -- Wrote & sent 2 page letter to Van Duzer --

Clear, breezy -- Fall weather and cooler -- The outside camping parties in

Lake Valley & other good summer camping [?] are all getting back home by reason of cold nights and Fall weather like today -- So also the tourists and pleasure seekers at Lake Tahoe have nearly all gone home, and the Steamer Tahoe is to be hauled off on the [15?]th of the month -- Put on my new shirt today and got my hair trimmed in good style -- Public schools and Nevada Business College reopened today -- Letter from Wife -- The various Comstock companies have signed the contract with Electric Power Co in Truckee river, Floriston to supply that power by wire to the Comstock -- Rosh Hashonah the Jewish New Year began at sunset this evening until sunset tomorrow evening -- cold raw night --

Clear & pleasant -- By evening train sent 4 page letter to Webster Patterson about Vardy & the Wells Herald. Frost last night or this morning about town and up the valley -- Regular fall weather -- Unusually cool August -- weather as shown by annexed item from A J Smith our local US Weather Observer -- In yesterday's San Francisco Bulletin I find account of death of D P Pierce whom I knew at and about Milpitas, Cal, when I was a rancher near there, long years ago -- He also came to Como when I was there, and together with a Mr Wicker ran the quartz mill there for a short time, after I left --

He also found me in Austin when I was running the Reveille, he being engaged in milling and mining at Lewis, a few miles north toward Battle Mountain. Same -- cool & just right -- PM down town -- at State Printing office awhile -- My letter of the 31st inst was published in SL Tribune of Monday Sept 4 and I found a copy of it today -- Makes a full column with its displaying head, the leading line, being "Nevada Reminiscence" -- served up in good style -- About 17 1/2 inches without the head -- 22 inches in a column --

Thursday Sept 7

Same -- PM down at State House & State Printing office -- got photo of Mante, State Printer, also a half-tone portrait of Sam Davis -- Rec'd letter from Van Duzer, Winnemucca, & sent reply, 2 page this evening -- Grand preparations to receive W J Bryan tomorrow PM -- Democratic-Silver -- Committees, gents and ladies went over to Lake Tahoe by carriages this evening to meet him and family, from SF, via Truckee & the lake, to speak this PM on arrival about 4:30 or 5 PM -- speaking to be held from west front steps

of State Capitol -- accompanied by wife & 3 children -- 2 girls & a boy -- leave on evening train for Reno & back to California -- speaking at Reno until evening east bound train from California arrives -- about 8:35 -- Anniversary of my terrible mining accident at Fort John Amador Co, Cal, Sept 7, 1854

131 -- A Skillman -- W J Bryan In Carson -- Big Time Big crowds from the Comstock Sections and From Reno The "Boy Orator of the Platte"

Friday Sept 8

Same -- PM wrote & sent letter to A Skillman, Eureka Sentinel desiring photos of himself, Geo W Cassidy, W W Hobart and Fred Hart -- Between 3 & 4 PM special trains from the Comstock & Reno brought over 1,000 people to see & hear Bryan -- Over 100 also came in carriages from Va, Silver & Dayton -- Carson looked like a fair or picnic day -- Big Cannon north of town fired salutes at intervals during the PM, Comstock Brass Band -- 8 pieces -- came down with the crowd, and the Carson Band and the Indian Band made up a pretty good welcoming assortment of music, playing on street & in the capitol grounds -- Bryan & party arrived rom Glenbrook & got off stage at the Ormsby House about 5 PM -- washed & fixed up & at 5:30 Bryan commenced speaking from west porch of the State capitol -- Gov Sadler presided and introduced and Congressman Newlands was among the dignitaries on the platform -- Huge audience -- 2,000 in the Park, [?] him -- Made a

splendid speech -- champion orator -- Spoke 59 minutes, closing at 6:20 -- left on train for Reno -- 1/2 hour later to take train east -- The Va train special -- 8 coaches crowded also left directly afterward -- Altogether rather interesting occasion -- Met lots of my old Va friends today --

Same -- warmer -- letter from Van Duzer, inclosing PO order for $4 -- Met George Laity and Harry Cardew from Silver City -- some of my old Comstock mining friends -- on a business visit to the Mint -- A telegram from Rennes to the News this evening, says that Dreyfus is declared guilty by a vote of five to two -- I finished reading "David Harum" this evening, and like it very much -- Better in some respects than anything I ever read --

Nevada Magazine Gets in all right Van Duzer -- I tumble -- Revising & Rewriting Part Second Frank Hall's Picture Returned -- Yom Kippur New Storey County Hospital -- A copy of Magazine received

Monday Sept 11

PM cloudy & very sultry but no relieving rain -- Wrote & sent 3 page letter to Van Duzer -- The second or September number of the Nevada Magazine arrived from Reno on the PM local train at 3:30 PM -- Saw it on sale at bookstore -- I am in it all right -- both Carson and Journalism articles in full -- with
