went -- Evening about town, most all the legislators and attaches belonging outside have gone, leaving a deserted look behind them -- Bed at 12 very tired, lonely and discouraged -- My Legislative Gossip made 3/4 of a column in Reno Ledger of Saturday last -- Mrs Meffley, mentioned these items was the engrossing clerk of the Assembly, and was from Lander county -- From Battle Mountain I think. Hardesty's Senate Bill No 10, was the now famous insurance bill vetoed by the governor 2 yrs ago and passed over his head this session and is now the law of the land, no other bill superseding it --

Same -- Busy at room most of day, straightening up my documents and accounts, sewing etc -- Joe Davidson a mining man from Bodie and elsewhere, also has been stopping at the Arlington last 4 or 5 months for his health, died of miners' consumption at noon today -- 42 yrs old, single, native of New York State -- Jim Yerington left last evening for Buffalo, NY to take charge as Commissioner, of the exhibit of Nevada at the Pan American Exposition -- Bed at 11, clear and freezing--

Thursday March 21

Fair & pleasant -- Was about town -- At Appeal office I was paid $5 of the $15 owing me for my 3 weeks Legislative reporting -- Was at the Governors office short time -- wrote & sent brief note to Judge Webster for the $5 owing me for my last weeks reporting on the Journal, and also a 2 page letter to Reno Ledger -- My letter of last Sunday appeared in the SL Tribune of yesterday, the 20th -- made a column, 21 1/2 inches, and 2 1/2 inches more -- total 24 inches -- Bed 12 -- cloudy & windy -- Frank Reihm, mentioned in the subjoined item is son of my old friend Mott Rheim on the Divide, between Virginia and Gold Hill, working at the Fulton Foundry -- brother in-law to Maggie Moore, my actress friend -- He married her sister. I one column in G Record today -- Harry Day presented me with a beautiful picture

the first part of this month entitled "My First Violin" -- told me 'twas special present from May Williams -- printed in colors and represents a little girl playing the violin -- Came with "Happy Hours" a monthly paper Augusta, Me -- Harry presented one to little Pearl Dempsey last fall and sent and got this for me --

Somewhat cloudy, with very strong & blustering NW wind -- clouds of dust -- Busy as yesterday -- PM commenced letter to G Record -- Bed 12

Saturday March 23

Fair -- variable -- Rose at 6 -- finished 4 page letter to G Record and got it mailed for Gardnerville at 10 -- PM about town -- Bed 12, tired -- My swollen right testicle has abated so that don't have to be slung up -- 3 times ordinary size yet -- Received $5 balance due in full for reporting from Reno Journal --

Sunday March 24

Fair -- pleasant -- Shade trees, Lombardy poplars, etc about town budding and blossoming -- preparatory to leaving out -- grasss greening out everywhere -- Sent letter, 1 page to wife, also receipt for last $5 to Reno Journal -- Evening about town -- Bed 12 -- cloudy and warm --

Snow -- SL Tribune -- Letter from Wife with my Journal receipt for $5 I sent Sunday evening together with a page letter to her on the matter -- I had merely got two letters into wrong envelopes Rep Senatorial Timber

Monday March 25

Foul, variable blustering winds from the SW -- 2 or 3 showers of rain laid the dust -- About town -- Bed 12 -- clear --

Tuesday March 26

Variable, moderate -- pleasant -- A lively snowsquall in early morning whitened the roofs and awning -- Didnt last long after the old sun got a look at it -- I wrote some on a letter to the Tribune today -- Bed 12 -- clear

Wednesday March 27

Variable and colder -- two or three lively hail or snowsqualls during the day -- In fact quite Wintry -- I was about town -- at State House -- State Printing office etc -- Recd note from wife, inclosing the receipt for $5 total balance due, which I sent to the Journal Sunday, at same time I sent letter -- 1 page -- to wife -- In my haste to get the mail, I exchanged and got each letter into the wrong envelope -- She should have sent the receipt to the Journal office & received her letter but she just wouldn't do it, but must send it back to me. I wrote & sent her a page letter on the subject this evening -- Bed 11 -- cloudy and cold --

Thursday March 28

Same -- snow or hail squalls kept the dust laid -- Wintry cold, freezing in the shade all day -- Completed and sent 4 page letter to SL Tribune -- Bed 12 -- I was 1 1/4 columns in the Gardnerville Record today --

Friday March 29

Same -- All white with 1/2 inch or so of snow on roofs awnings & streets in early morning -- Sun got out occasionally & melted snow all off except on north sides of buildings & cross streets -- PM down at State capitol getting list of laws passed at this legislature -- Was discovered in Sec of States office about 3 PM that the Hardesty insurance bill, vetoed by the Gov 2 yrs ago and passed over his head this session was of no effect, lacking signatures of Van Duzer and Judge, Speaker and Prest of the two Houses -- a fatal blundering omission -- So the whole vexatious Insurance problem is very satisfactorily & summarily solved -- the bill being a self vetoes nullity -- All Insurance Cos withdrawing business from this State can soon get in as before -- The sensation of the day -- no extra session needed to be called --
