Gentlemen :
Over three-hundred years ago my
direct ancestors came to this dear America.
Two of them made the supreme sacrifice on
Bunker Hill. Men of my family have fought and
died in every battle this country has ever
had . I am proud to be the widow of an officer
who died in the World War , and to have had
the privilege to "carry on " within a week
after his death as Active Assistant Surgeon
U.S.P.H.S. .

My reason for never having made application
for membership in the D.A.R. is because to
me it smacked of sactimonious seclusiveness
and intellectual snobbery. To my mind , an
offense to Democratic ideals. The first
generation or the tenth , America needs only
her spiritually loyal and active good citizens,
regardless of color, race, creed, or class.
No doubt thousands of devoted Americans thrill-
ed over our First Lady's attitude in resign-
ing from the D.A.R. .

As for our beloved Mayer , and our New York
City's own Station , they are the apotheosis
of "The American Way ." A toast to you for
your stand on Mary Anderson . In the words of
Rip Van Winkle , may you live long and
prosper.
Cordially ,
