[January 4 1953] Up about 8:30 Freibe rounded up a man who laid the concrete blocks for the porch foundation wall. Malcolm [and] Dave helped.

In the afternoon Jessie came over and brot her sister Lucy and they admired the house so very much stayed until time to take George to the station.

Freibe [and] I had dinner at 6 and the evening was lost to television.

Retired later.

[January 5, 1953] Up early.

Franz came at 10 40 and had breakfast, we worked a little and assembled two programs and he left at 3.

I worked a bit on my figueres[?]. Went into new home as the workmen left [and] the mason had completed his work placed both hearths [and] the slab over the chimney [and] it looks very good. The carpenters had started (putting) in the insulation the new kind.

Kilian came to bring fill + it makes quite a difference Fed dogs. Stayed in. Retired 12:45

[January 6, 1953] Up early had breakfat and was driven to New York 15 00 taxi to Hurok office 2 45 there[?] to Steffi 1 25 dinner 3 40 came[?] back to apartment 1 25 calls stayed in called Philadelphia also Ediths Mrs Todd. Late snack. Studied a bit. Call from Freibe[?]. Retired at midnight.

Food dinner tip 40 transp dinner 3.40 19.95 late snack 1.90 up 2.00 [totals?] 5.70 21.95

[January 7, 1953] Up early went to Dr. Bucky cab 1.80 and had to walk to my next appointment. Went to office cab 60 then to Russian Tea Room for lunch with Mr. Fainberg [and] John[?] taxi to 42nd Street .80 Crawford 1.20 1.40 Franz [and] I left e[?] up here to apt. worked[?] well til [?] he left. I stayed before 12 [and] could [?]

[January 8, 1953] Up early cleaned up had breakfast washed [and] dressed my hair. Went to Mrs Rosin for Italian readig at 2. taxi 2.00 Franz came there and we worked til after 4. I returned to the apartment cab 2.00 took Franz by his apartment. I began dressing it was now after 5 and Jofe due at 5 50 he arrived about 6 30 [and] we went directly to the Waldorf Astoria to the affair in Huroks honor. It was really fine and very well organized. Once there one forgot the filthy weather outside. There must have been about 1500 or more people [and] Hurok announced that the affair had brot in 200000. The American Fund
