Mr. F. A. Wann,

Salt Lake Route,

Los Angeles, Cal.

My dear Mr. Wann:-

I am in receipt of your communication of November
22nd, conveying an expression of your approval of my action
in the somewhat notorious Hillstrom case. I appreciate your
support in this matter very much. Letters such as yours
are a source of profound satisfaction to me as they are to
the other officials who handled this notorious case. Up-
wards of thirty thousand pieces of mail were recieved and
most of them were threatening in character. On top of this,
the interference of the President, without reason, made the
situation a difficult one to handle. I tried only to do
my plain and simple duty and am hopeful that the stand which
I have taken in this matter may be a precident. Assuredly
if our institutions of government are to be maintained, this
idea of bull-dozing those who are charged with the enforce-
ment of law must be fore-gone.

With the compliments of the season to yourself and
Mrs. Wann in which Mrs. Spry joins me. I am

Cordially yours,

Governor.
