good man & steady brave Officer we have 22 Officers killed & wounded, amongst which are 3 Lt. Cols & 2 Majors I was hit yesterday with the splinter of a shell in the back it was luckily almost spent & has done me no injury insomuch that I am still on my duty I hope you will have heard no unpleasant news of me, as I know I was reported to have been severely wounded
General Lumley has spoken of us in the highest terms in general orders, & has promised to report it in the strongest manner to Marshal Beresford I am sure the Brigade deserves it, for greater gallantry, steadiness & intrepidity never was witnessed
15th Left the camp before Badajos in the night & marched to Elvas where we remained a few hours &
16th marched in the morning to Olivenca, where we remained until 12 o’clock at night, when we marched
