THE CHRISTIAN UNION

The Christian Union was organized as a Board of the University of Chicago by action of the Trustees, April 30, 1901. As reorganized in 1914 its purposes, constituency and organization are as follows:

I. Purpose

1. To federate and give larger efficiency to the officially recognized interdenominational or undenominational organizations ministering to the moral and religious welfare of the University.

2. To determine the general policy of moral and religious activities with the University.

3. To assist in financing its constituent co-operating organizations and such other moral and religious activities as may appear to the Board needed and practicable.

4. To suggest to the President, University preachers and have general oversight of the administration of the preach-| ing services in the University.

5. To co-operate in the work of the University of Chicago Settlement.

6. To give official recognition to student organizations for moral and religious ends.

II. Membership

1 . Ex-officio

(a) The President of the University. (b) The Recorder of the University. (c) The Chaplain of the University. (d) The Director of the University Choir. (e) The Dean of Women. (f) The presidents or chairmen of its co-operating organizations. (g) The salaried secretaries of such organizations. (h) The Chairman of the Settlement Board.

2. Appointment by the President of the University.

(a) Ten members of the Faculties of the University. (b) Ten members of the student body, to be nominated by the student council and such other officially recognized student bodies as may take action for this end.

III. Officers

1. The officers of the Board of the Christian Union shall be elected at its first meeting in the Spring quarter of each year. They shall hold office until their successors are elected. 2. The officers shall be a chairman and a vice-chairman who shall be members of the Faculties of the University, a Treasurer and a Secretary. Their duties shall be those usually attached to their offices. 3. Standing Committees of the Board shall be appointed on Finance Philanthropy Sunday and chapel services Religious work

An executive Committee shall also be appointed, composed of the officers and chairmen of standing committees.

V. Meetings

1. The Board of the Christian Union shall hold regular meetings on the third Saturday of each month, and such special meetings as may be called by the chairnan of the Board. 2. At the regular meetings, reports shall be made by the standing committees ind the representatives of the co-operating organizations.
