Jan 19/04 Tuesday —

After the fight [Neill Wilson] Funk (class of 1905) had two beauty black lamps, & [Joseph S.] Lawton (class of 1905) had a stupendous skinned up nose. The fight put them on good terms again. I had to tell a thousand lies to

the inquisitive guys who wanted to know the cause of the black eyes & swelled nose. Funk claimed he fell down while skating. Lawton fell against the steps & hit his nose. It happened there were three other fights

in college on the same day. Lawton has moved, & as [Charles Anderson] Wickliffe (class of 1905) & I decided to do so several days ago, we have bought our furniture & engaged our rooms at 5 West Range. My lungs have been getting sore so

I went to the hospital, & doctor gave me some dandy medicine {what} with whiskey in it. The trouble is I can only use 4 tea spoons full a day. All the guys are after it & I have to {kep} keep it locked
