We are very sensible our father would never permit you to charge 3 Pr Ct. upon your sales of his tobo. [tobacco] for a consideration of your making good bad debts & we know very well that your father and grandfather never made a charge of this sort nor ever brought a bad debt to account tho' they made a most eminent figure in the tobo. [tobacco] trade however we choose rather to submit to this additional half Pr. Ct. for the future than to be exposed to the misfortunes that have fallen on some in this country. We expect an answer by the next opportunity to acquaint us that you do agree to this proposal undertaking to make good all your sale of tobo. [tobacco] for 3 pCo. commission.
The quantity of tobo. [tobacco] shipt [shipped] this year from Virginia you may in some measure judge of by what you will receive from our father's Mr. Burwell's & Colo. Pages estates coming far short of last years remittance and bearing some proportions to the whole. And there being now a worse prospect of a crop in the ground than for many years past, we can't but expect a pleasing market at our entrance on business with you; If it is received with diligence and encouragement on your part, it shall be continued with gratitude on our, We are,
