Landon Carter, and sincerely wish them under
the best Tutors.--- I find by your melan=
=choly Relation of the Tob.o Trade, that I may
prepare myself for a poor Sale of my last
Consignment, however, I will not anticipate
the Evil but rest satisfied of the honesty
and good Will of MrGoore towards me, in
this and every other Transaction, 'tho' I must
confess, that I expected a far better Price for
it, than the French generally give, as the
Tob.o appear'd suitable for the Liverpoole
Market.--- I have now given Capt.
Scot, (who seems to me a diligent man) 20
Lhds of Tob.o weighing 2438 [illegible] nett, which
Quantity I hope you'll think equal in
Quality to any of the Flys Cargo, it is tru[ly]
sweetscented stout Tob.o made upon fresh
back Lands, and has rec.'d every Advantage
in it's Growth that was necessary.---

As you are inclinable to send a Ship once
more to Rappahanock, I have, agreeable w.th
your Request, consulted y.r Friends, who,
I suppose would be well Pleas'd, Because
then, they would more easily come at their
Goods, and possibly, such a Ship, may in=
=duce the common People, (to ship their
Crops,) who make up the Bulk of the
Planters, and have reason to be sick of the
Impositions of the Scotch Factors & others,
Retailers in our Country -- therefore, if
You'll send an early Ship, to be here in the
Month of March, I expect it may turn out
to your Interest, as well as to the Advan=
=tage of your Correspondents, at least, I hope
you'll not be a [Looser?] for a Voyage or two,
in which time, should the Trial not answer, you
may decline further Prosecution.---

Upon these Considerations, I think a Vessel
of abt 230, or 240 Lhds, might be loaded to you
from this River, but not one of a greater Bur=
=then, to accomplish which, you may assure
Yourself, that I will do every thing in my
Power,- But Sir, to be plain with you, I
must tell you, that you are not a favour=
=ite with several Gent. upon this River, par=
=ticularly Colo Landon Carter, who complains
of you heavily, I have often conversed with him
abt you, endeavouring to convince him, that
you never intended to injure him in the least,
I wish you could fall on some Method to re=
=concile him, as you know he is a con=
=siderable Shipper to y.r Port, & I know
turn over -
