At the same time insured forty Lhds of my Tob.o
at 7 G.s warranted with Convoy which Prem.o
Stands good, and for which I now have a Policy with
Their Opinion agreeable with my own, that it would
Be madness in me to think of Paying the high
Demand of 25 G.s upon a single Ship, and there
=fore, they according to my positive direction made
Insurance warrented with Convoy, without any
Reservation - - - - -
Pray Gentlemen, can any accident which you
May imagine, I could not foresee, justify a
Merchant in acting entirely contrary to the Parti
=cular Instructions of his correspondent, No
certainly; I desired the favour of you to insure
my Commodity, conditionally that is warrant
=ed to sail with Convoy the meaning of which words,
Most certainly is that you shall not insure on other
Terms, then surely, you ought not to insure otherwise,
But I go further, and declare that I will not agree to
Pay the high Prem.o upon single bottoms but rather
run the Risk of the whole, either of which Directi=
=ons, can not admit of a doubt, Because, in case
of Loss, I Should be the only Sufferer - - - -
Some Merchants may think that where a Corresponde
=nt is indebted to them, they are justifiable in
insuring his consignment, for their own Security,
But I am sure, that was not the motive with M.r
Hanbury, as you know your selves safe and can easily
come at the Debt by a Proper Application --
Upon the whole, I hope, when you have considered
my objections to the Charge of 25 G.s per C.t You
will readily give my Account Credit for the difference
=e, between 7 G.s and 25 G.s which
I really think will be nothing more than the
Strictest Justice ---
As many months are now pass'd since I mentioned
To you fully, my objections to y.r Charge of Interest,
I flatter my self that upon variously considering it,
you have acquiesced in the Unreasonabliness of the
Demand, and will by y.r next Letter give it up - - -
It always concerns me to dispute with Gentlemen, in
whome I place so great Confidence, Therefore Do
Gentlemen put an End to our Disputes, which will
Greatly please. - - Y.r hble Servant
