per Lhd clear, in Case of Loss, I expect
to get that Qut ready in time & as Capt
Hylton will certainly sail with Con=
=voy, I flatter myself, Insurance upon him,
will be very low. I have not yet
heard of my last Consignment, to
y.r House. I am Gent Yrs&C.
To Capel & Osgood Hanbury. Char.s Carter
By Capt Aust J Randolph. &Garwith from Rapk.
--------------------------------
Gent. Corotoman Virginia July 20th 1761

I have just now Receiv'd yours of the 20.th March Covering
the Sales of my Sixty two Lhds. Tobacco, Sent By the Jacob
& Jonah, their nett Proceeds L585.6.6 which Sum I flatter
Myself is the most that Could be got for them, but cannot
Say the Acc.ts gave me Pleasure Particularly those of
N.o 7.6.5 & 3 Samples of which you mention having
Sent, for my Satisfaction of their bad Quality & Condition, they
have not yet Appeard, but am satisfied of their meanness
From Your word, which I hope I may always rely on; it is
Now two late to Follow your direction in Prising, afew
Lh.ds Tob.a (of my last Crop) to Particular Weights, but another
Year; Your Request shall be Comply'd with, - - -
I have by several Opportunities Desired L600 to be
Insur'd on 60 Lh.ds Tob.a by Cap.t Hylton in your new
Ship, which Quantity I expect to make up for him
to Sail with Convoy, Indeed I fear Both Caxton &
Hylton will meet with Difficulty in filling up
For there was nothing like a full Crop the Past Year
In Virginia -- Your Long Letter of Sept.r the 15th
In answer to mine upon the Score of interest
is some time since come to hand, to which I cannot
Say more than I have already, it appears to me -
Almost impossible that y.r Commission's Upon the
Quantities of Tob.a I have Consign'd to you Should
Amount to only L215 Odd Money including interest
For Cash advanced which You Rate at L191.18.9
So that in Fact your Com.s of all Sorts amount to
only L23:[4?]:5. A very trifling Sum I must Confess;
Certainly Gentlemen, you mistake, For my Part
I desire nothing but what is reasonable I know there
Are other Merchants would advance as much - -
Cash for me as you have without Any Interest
& if so, Surely I have Corresponded with Your house
to A great Disadvantage, you say nothing more Could
Be Done than leaving the Sum to be Charged =
