Dear Friends,

It was a great disappointment to me not to see you at the depot, but the following circumstances will account for the same. Brother & sister came in the 10--30 train from Philadelphia to spend Christmas with us; they reached the house at 12--30 just as I had intended to start to meet you; before I could [sure?] around, in [came?] father and mother, giving us a complete surprise I had to see them comfortably provided for, and [are?] I
