[given?] vividly—give her my dear love & god's [help?]. Would that I could name the man for Pres. O Howard but I dont know him. Sorry that George declines—[for?] though not a brilliant man—he is, far better He is [through?] has [ashrindle?] judgement eminently practised—commands respect & confidence & fits into the niche of Howard's present need. [Chief?] [spoke?] as he is in the [lower?] [Mississippi?]—they can better spare him than Howard can.
