J. W. Alvord, My dear Sir:

There is nothing in respect to Terry or his proposed loan different from your investigation when you were here. Edwards & Barnard endorse the abstract as formerly a good [title?], subject to certain lines which are to be paid from the [loan?], and which of course I shall reserve the money and pay myself.

I have also accepted, subject to your approval a loan of $160000 at 8o/C on one of the houses on 14th street opposite the old state Dept, now orphan asylum— owned by B. A. Farless, a

$1600 clerk in the Treasury Dept. The house is two story shack building with cellar, but unusually well built and finished. I knew at the time of his purchase. He gave $5000 and spen nearly $1000 on it. It is assessed at $4040. He is a clerk of many years standing and is not likely to be turned out. Lot 20 x 140

The amount is a little above that you men [toned?] but the loan seemed to be an unusually good one and I thought you would probably take it if here. The papers will be prepared and executed tomorrow and if you will send the check above, if you approve, I will close the matter up at once.

I would not advise an investment in the Brick Machine Co bonds without endorsement but as the endorsers pledge themselves to see them paid at maturity I supposed that would make them good
