Eastward from the centre of the ruined town
is an extensive complex of buildings, half
buried in debris. In the S.E. angle of the
complex I was able to make out the plan which
appears on the opposite page.

Most of the arches there shown are still in
situ the others lie where they fell. The
plan suggests little, it resembles no plan
in all the region, and it is probable that
the key lies buried in the great heap of
debris at the northwest. The apse like room
to the south is not like a church apse, having
no side chambers, and having the piers of
arches upon its axis. But it is quite
possible that these arches are not original, for
there are pier caps above the opening of the
present arches of a single span. Again, we
may have here a basement story, the higher
arches belonging to an upper floor.
