Dear Sir,

I am very much obliged to you for your interests letter dated 31st Oct. enclosing a very kind letter from Dr. L.W. Weeks.

You would be surprised if you were here, to see the opposition that is being offered to the introduction of this system of ensilage. We find that if the clover is just in when in full flower, that it keeps well, after it is taken out of the [just?], for over a month, whereas Rye does not keep nearly so well and turns mouldy.

Yours truly,

Dear sir:

Those fish came in excellent order and we had some for breakfast. They were fine.

The are all cisco. You mention some as large as three pounds I think this is about as large as they ever attain although there may be larger [illegible] — The largest whole fish I ever caught was 12 I thought their have been [reported?] fish that weighed more — I saw taken at [illegible] a spectacular trout that weighed 12 [lbs?] [good?] [weight?] — this is the [largest?] ever reported — I saw a Lake Trout caught at [Racine?] that [illegible] 60 lb [illegible] size will not answer to

distinguish one species of fish from another.

The cisco, and all of its species, has a sharp nose with a long under jaw so that when the mouth is opened the under jaw projects considerably beyond the upper jaw — the whole fish has a square nose with a short under jaw so when the mouth is open the under jaw is much shorter than the upper. With many thanks
