Mrs. Vel R. Phillips
Alderman, Sixth Ward
City Hall, Room 205
Milwaukee, Wisconsin 53202

Dear Mrs. Phillips:

This will acknowledge your letter of May 17, 1968, concerning the
candy store situation at the Holmes School. I am referring it to Mr.
Robert Baer, the Director of Elementary School Administration,
with the request that he again speak to all concerned and report back
to me on my return to the city on Monday, May 27.

Actually we have thirteen school days left, beginning tomorrow,
May 23, and I doubt whether it would be feasible to get things started
again.

As you may have noticed, the Superintendent is recommending a
reorganization of this office. The Assistant Superintendent-to-be of
the united Division of Administration will, I am sure, want to give
this and other matters involving individual adjustments to needs of
particular schools much consideration. The effort will be to give
more freedom of adjustment.

In any event, I am suggesting to Mr. Baer, who will be transferred
to the new division, that he should bring this matter to the attention
of the Assistant Superintendent in charge.

Very truly yours,
William M. Lamers
William M. Lamers
