Your petitioner therefore prays your honorable body to make such legal provision for your petitioner's being divorced from said John Leach as it may appear proper to the wisdom of your honorable body. Your petitioner would in the difficulty of procuring documentary proofs of the injurious treatment and desertion she has experienced beg leave to refer to the Honorable Charles C.P. Arndt of the Council or to Mr. J.G. Knapp now at Madison. And your petitioners will ever pray.

To the Council and House of Representatives of the Territory of Wisconsin

This the petition of your petitioner Sarah Leach would respectfully represent to your honorable body that in the year 1837 your petitioner was legally married to John Leach a non-commissioned officer in the United States Army and that she resided with hm a short time at Green Bay Wisconsin Territory, the marriage having taken place on the 4th June 1837 and her husband John Leach having left that place on the 16th or 17th of the same month: since which time your petioner has not seen her husband John Leach although she has instantly resided at or near Green Bay Wisconsin Territory. That at the departure of said John Leach from Green Bay he made no provision for the support of your petitioner, but that for the last four years she has been obliged to provide for herself by the labour of her own hands. That owing to her marriage with said Leach she was deprived of all rights and share in the land or property of the Brothertown nation of Indians to which she belonged - That your petitioner has conclusive evidence that her husband has abandoned her permanently: your petitioner having received a letter within a short time from said Leach stating that he never intends to live with your petitioner again nor
