REMONSTRANCE

To the Senate and Assembly of the State of Wisconsin:

The undersigned, your petitioners, respectfully represent that they are residents of Jackson County, Wisconsin; that for several years last past, the Town of Albion has been composed of considerable territory on the east and west side of Black river; that the valuation of that part of the territory lying in said Town of Albion, on the east side of the river is less than one-half the valuation of the said Town of Albion, as appears from the last assessment roll of said Town of Albion; that the York Iron Company's furnace is and has been for six years last past located on the N. E. 1/4 of Section No. fourteen (14), in Township No. twenty one (21) north, of Range No. four (4) West, and constitutes about 20 per cent. of the valuation of the assessable property on the east side of said river in said Town of Albion; that all of the said Town of Albion on the east side of said river was by the action of the County Board, at its annual session in November, 1890, detached from the Town of Albion and formed into a new town, to be called "Brockway," which town is to be organized on April 7, 1891; that your petitioners are informed and verily believe that a scheme is now being worked up and perfected by residents of the City of Black River Falls, to detach the territory on which said furnace is located from said Town of Brockway, and attach the same to the said city, by amending the charter thereof so as to include within the limits of said city, territory now adjoining the same in Sections 22 and 23, Town 21 North, Range 4 West, and also the territory in Section 14, aforesaid, on which is situated said iron furnace; that the population of the territory which it is proposed to take from said Town of Brockway and attach to said city is about 175, and is nearly one-half the entire population of said new Town of Brockway; that said proposed changes in the boundaries of said Town of Brockway would seriously cripple said town, and probably make its organization impracticable, if not impossible.
Your petitioners pray that your Honorable bodies refuse to pass or enact any bull or amendment to the charter of said city which shall in any manner change the boundaries of the Town of Brockway, and your petitioners will ever pray.
Dated January 17, 1891.
