To the Honorable the Legislative Assembly of Wisconsin Territory
The undersigned inhabitants of the Townships of Watertown County of Jefferson have learned with regret that a Petition has been presented to your Honorable Body praying for a change of the name of said Town.
The undersigned are decidedly of the opinion that no benefit will arise from a change in the name as the present name is now well established and known, abroad and by a change of the name much irregularity will take place in letters & papers coming to the place.
If your Honorable body should think proper to change the name of said Town, the name proposed is not a suitable name and will give general dissatisfaction and the undersigned would like to be further heard before the subject is finally erected upon.
Dated Watertown January 6th 1842.
