City Clerks Office Portage, Feb. 4, 1864.

Hon. A.J. Turner, Assembly-

Dear Sir-

Please find a copy of a Resolution adopted by the Common Council of this city last evening. Allow me to add, that the general opinion of our people so far as I have heard is averse to the proposed division of the First Ward, as being entirely innecessary, & would tend to add to the expenses of the city, without any compensating benefits-This is the opinion of all with whom I have conversed, on the subject.

Yours, &c

C.C. Britt City Clerk
