as St. Thomas. Then we took stage as far as Surem. At
Surem we changed horses, and came on to the village
of Aylmer. We went by stage, or mail as it is called a cart
and pair of horses that fetches and takes the mail bags
I got the driver's horn, and had a rare spree with it
as I went along past the farm houses, calling the people
up. I can assure you, as I passed along, I awoke the
dull echoes. After Aylmer, we drove along through a very
beautiful wooded and hilly country, to Richmond, and
from Richmond to Vienna, a distance of five miles.
Every yard of the road was a plank road. I got into
Vienna about an hour ago, have had supper since
and it is almost twelve o'clock, so you must excuse
more from me to night, especially as I have to be up
and ready for the stage by six to-morrow morning. With
