16 Wrote to Mrs Brush Mrs Mc'Fie Simpson
Smith, Beddows, Aunt Alice. it rained
hard all day so I did not go out at all
but mended my clothes
Mrs Chill showed me her embroidery
she had just bought. I send Christmas
cards to Mrs. McFie, Aunt Ellie, Mrs. Mills
---- Lady Johnson, Mrs. McBelle and Annie
Mrs Mc---, Eliza Askew, -----------
George bought a very good cabinet with
a good deal of ivory carving on the
doors. In fact he bought far more
than I expected he would. He got
the thing packed and bought a very pretty
gold fish bowl of imary ware. Old,
which is really valuable. We leave
tomorrow morning at 10 for
[Osaka?]. A large manufacturing
town. Very crowded and a port from
which much is exported. It rained all
morning but we got to the castle
and were rewarded by the very fine
view. The castle is now a ruin
having been destroyed by fire & its
grounds are used as a barracks.
