Office of the Light House Engineer
THIRTEENTH DISTRICT
Portland, Oregon, May 6th (1872)

Chairman Light House Board,
Washington, D.C.

SIR:

In connexion with the question of enlarging the Light house Reservation at Yaquina Bay, I would respectfully call your attention to the fact that the deed calls for about 36 acres of land, while the laws of Oregon (act approved Octo 29th 1870) provide for the purchase by the United States of only 20 acres in one tract. The cession of jurisdiction is certainly limited to 20 acres even if the government purchases more. I would respectfully inquire if 20 acres should not be surveyed and a description of such tract recorded in order to comply with the statute?

Very respectfully,
Your obedient servant,
[Henry M. Robert]

Major of Eng'rs and LH Engr
