Crawfordville Ga 29. July 1862

Dear Brother John is here on his way home. While he is eating his breakfast I drop you a line. Eliza is very sick - bad off - Ellen no better. Tim down not sick much - broken out All the rest up as yet. The measles & mumps will go through my family here and at the plantation I expect. Dora has the mumps up here. She will catch the measles soon I expect

No rain yet. Some appearance of it this morning. Rio knew Judge Thomas the other night - barked over him a great deal. In the night he quit my room and went up stairs to the Judges and tried to follow him off Harry told me I did not get up when they started. Last night before I went to bed Rio went up stairs. I could not account for it until Harry told me what he had done the night before. Poor old fellow I expect he thinks if he could get

back to the places where he used to be with the Judge he would be rejuvenated - would get back his sight & his hearing - Wonder if this is so - if the dog ever thinks of such things. The Judge looked well but I felt uneasy to let him take such a trip. Goodbye Write to me Alex
