Crawfordville Ga 12. April 1864

Dear Brother I drop you a line by Mr. Hidell. I am just up from the plantation and have but a moment to write before he leaves. I am not well. Have a head ache have been taking too much exercise down on my farm and feel quite wearied and jaded. If the weather would continue as it was yesterday I would soon bring up lost time in planting I was very much tired last night & slept soundly

About day Bob came in and said that Mary little Mary they call her was sick and I had better send for the doctor or some body. "Whats the matter?" said I? "She told her mother that she was looking to be laid up and that she was in pain all night and her Mother says you better send for some body She dont know what to do." This was Bob is what to her ailment. I told him to start Sherman for Dr; Brashy & if he was not at home to bring Dr. Kent. As I was about leaving there at ten oclock

I saw Dr. Kents horse standing at his gate I called to Rachael to know how Mary was. She reported that "the Dr. said she was getting along very well and would do what she was going to do sometime during the day" I came off and shall feel some anxiety to hear further in the evening. No body was looking for Mary's confinement She was out planting corn yesterday even as usual and I did not think she was within three months of time. I fear she is about to have an abortion and may have a hard time of it. Yours affectionately Alexander H. Stephens
