41485 Sergeant Kenmir Loudon MCADAM.

Kenmir McAdam was born at Dunedin on the 6th February 1918 and received his secondary education at the Otago Boys' High School where he passed the Matriculation Examination. He furthered his studies at the Otago University and passed seven subjects of the Bachelor of Commerce degree. The sports in which he was interested included, cricket, football, tennis and badminton. His civilian occupation was that of a clerk and secretary and at the time of applying, on the 13th April, 1943, for enlistment in aircrew he was employed as Assistant Secretary to the Otago Building and Investment Society at Dunedin.

Sergeant McAdam was enlisted at the Initial Training Wing, Levin, on the 19th January, 1941, and on the satisfactory completion of the initial course, was posted on the 28th February to No. 1 Elementary Flying Training School, Taieri, for his elementary flying training, and thence on the 12th April to No. 1 Flying Training School, Wigram. At this latter station on the 24th May he was awarded the flying badge and on the 5th July promoted to Sergeant. On the 22nd July, 1941, he embarked for the United Kingdom.

Sergeant McAdam arrived at No. 3 Personnel Reception Centre, Bournemouth on the 2nd September 1941, and proceeded a few days later to No. 10 Operational Training Unit, Abingdon, Berkshire, where he completed his training on Whitley bomber aircraft before posting on the 15th December to No. 58 Squadron, Linton-on-Ouse, Yorkshire. While with No. 10 Operational Training Unit, he carried out one operational flight being a leaflet raid to France. With 58 Squadron first at Linton-on-Ouse and later St. Eval, Cornwall, he participated in a further eight operations comprising attacks on the following targets - Mannheim, Aachen, Emden, all in Germany; a leaflet raid on Paris, France; Heroya in Norway and sweeps over the North Sea.
