Sergeant McAdam was a member of the crew of a Whitley aircraft which failed to return to base from a training flight over the Atlantic on the 20th April and in consequence he was classified as missing. The body of one member of the crew was recovered off the coast of County Cork, Ireland, but nothing further was heard of Sergeant McAdam and, in due course, his death was officially presumed to have occurred on the 20th April, 1942.
