January 27, 1856 - February 13, 1856

1856 Jany 27 This Day Snowing again began
soon in the night last night tho not very
Deep cloudy & like for Rain & Did Hail & Rain
a little this day —

28th Fair this morning & Cold & snow melts
but little yet & we have nothing in this
month but get wood feed & sit by fire
make Brooms Baskets Malls & Gluts 2
Lambs living & 2 Dead as we Know of
Went to Fannies last Thursday or friday & engaged
her a Overseer Danl Barber for 1856, etc etc
But overseers House of Mr Hughes have to
move it & put it up ————

29 Getting wood at stony pint quite cold & snow
melts but little no more Lambs one sheep sick

30 Cutting at new ground Henry & some of
the negroes Halling chaff & cleaning out
Granary for Oats, very Cold to day north
western wind & in shade freezing all day
alse shelling Corn, etc

Feby 3rd Snowed on Sunday I was in charlotte
attending to Mrs Moseleys Will etc found Jacob
quite sick & stayed down there 9 days - etc
our folks finished striping all the Tobacco
down finished Cutting in new ground &
went to malling -

12 went down to F McCullocks after my
Buggy & went to meadsville after Jacob Trunk
& Pay off his accts etc - very rough
weather indeed & yesterday very windy & cold

13 malling & spining etc etc
Jacob went to Fannies yesterday or
monday - - agreed with with Mr
McCullocks
to get Mrs Colemans negroes
from Mrs Moseley & carry them to Halifax
Febry Court
- for $6-00
Last night it Snowed again not very deep
quite Cold this morning Hung up 14 shoulders
16 midlings 16 Hams 6 Joles & 2 ps Beef to Smoke
