Notice that the entries go from Nov. 3rd, 4th, then back to Oct 27. It is possible JWG is recording the work done while he was traveling from Oct. 26 to Nov. 1. and even while he was at Straight Stone on the 3rd.
entry on the 4th: I can't understand F. & JD 22; Buchanon & B.? 50. Are these two people running together? Is "JD" JD Hunt?
Could the entry on the 4th be a reference to the 1856 Presidential Election counts at Straight Stone? Democrats James Buchanan and John C. Breckinridge were running against Republicans John C. Frémont and William L. Dayton and also Know-Nothings Millard Fillmore and Andrew J. Donelson
"Buchannon & B" could be Buchannan and Breckinridge. "F & J. D" could be Fillmore and Donelson. The Wikipedia Article on Donelson doesn't mention anything much that might explain the J, but I could ask a colleague who's written on Donelson about the reference.
