1872 Nov 13 Housing my corn to day & finished, Lowry Here & went after my Bull at Wallaces this morning brot him home & then help us about Housing corn Mr Mattherly rounding shingles for Porch, finished comb of Kitchen, Rained a little about night Christopher Hubbard moved here this evening has been moving corn & His formerly 3 or 4 days & got his hands to move yet John R Whitehead send to Mr Templeton after his Cow & Calf Raymond & Jerry [C?????] I made about fifty Barrels of corn nubbins & all got Sams Ropers to finish yet all he had in fresh field some to Hall up & some at shuck [p??] Put up most of our Hogs to fatten in Sept & 3 in pen by old Kitchen - at this time 14 Hauling up Sams corn Lowry Milton & Ben pulling did not get done, finished [except] one Load on Mountain Raymond & Jerry Came down after yearling, cloudy all day - nearly Kit Hubbard finished moving finished moving 15. Finished Halling up Sams corn Killed a Shoat this morning clear & cool day shucking Corn Sams to day - Kit finished moving yesterday Mr Mattherly Carried Log to Mill for [Shucking] & brot Home plank for Porch & meal 16th Finished shucking corn Housing & pulling away shucks Cris & Milton Helped us Martin came this evening & put up our Irish Potatoes & Beets & [let] out 2 for Seed Francis Helped Pick & Put them away in Kiln very cold to night 18th Chris Hubbard Lewis & Andrew Cutting down corn Stalks to Sew wheat that come from Wm W Moses Chris brot all his gang after dinner & finished after dinner where we are going to Sew wheat, - Mr Mattherly Lowry at work this morning when finished I am to give him $5 for it, - Ben went to Mill Yates for Sam this morning quite cool to day

1872 Nov 19th Mr Mattherly at work on chimney Sewing wheat from about 12 oclock Lowry not Andew pretended to cut down corn Stalks Lewis helping Mr Mattherly -- 20 Lowry here setting up Tar Kill Setting oat Greens &C Mr Mattherly gone to [Mill] 3 Horses Plowing in wheat all day Lewis carried & brot Turkey from Jacobs & now Putting up Greens & cabbage to put up Andrew cutting corn stalks Kits gang Cutting wood again to day 21 Cutting wood Chris & his gang Sam & his & my Gang cutting very cold did not do much 22 Chris & his hands cutting wood in morning finished Sewing wheat in evening Sewed in corn field from Mr Wm W Moses nearly 5 Bushel white gold Chaff wheat & sewed in all 28 Bushels 23 Bowden & 5 Golden Chaff making 28 Bus in all Cutting Stalks Andrew & Lewis Sams Halling wood in evening - Andy all day nearly in the evening cleared off Covered Turnip Patch Sam Lewis Ben & Andrew & Milton I went to Mount Airy after [Lock C?] 24 Stayed at Home Sunday -- weather moderate 25. Mr Mattherly Here at work on Kitchen Chimney Kit Plowing for Corn On Branch his gang Cutting till 12 oclock Trimed aspen by door this morning Hauled 3 Loads stalks 2 for Steers at Stable 1 for cows, Sam Hauled up Shock of Blade fodder Sorry. some Carried to cutting house On Hill & some in Granary for mules - Chris cleaning up on Branch this evening for corn. Pulling up Greens & covered Turnip Patch last week 26 Chris Plowing for Corn his Gang cleaning up On Branch opening water furrows on Branch Rained in evening some Chris mending collars & Bridles &C &C weather warmer some

1872 Novr 27th Sam Andrew Ben & Lewis fencing at muntain Chris & his Gang halling Leaves I went to Abrams. Dews Shop did not get my horse shod 28th Sam Halling rails to Tobacco Lot & fencing Halling 2 Loads wood & finished fence this evening around Tobacco Lot to corner of woods. Jerry came here last night from [Lanes]. Chris & his gang cleaning Plowing Some he is Ditching & cutting up flag Grass. Bunches next to crop fence, clear & cold, 29th Wind raised last night & Turned very cold & very Windy & cold all day Halled some wood & Brush for cow pens &C made pig Pen done but very little, dont Know yet what Sam intends to do. Mr Mattherly did not go to Mr Moses after wheat on acct of its being So Cold, - 30 not much done to day but Cut wood [fied] &C quite Cool & Blowed quite cold I went to John Lanes & he was not at home. JW? Decemr 1st Cloudy & like for Snow, Soon in morning Cleared off about 10 oclock & more moderate 2nd Weather Moderate Shelled Corn, Sent to Mill 3 1/2 Bushels corn for me some for Chris Some for Sam Roper & 6 Bushels wheat for me, got [of] all the meal did not get My flour at all, but can get it tomorrow Bro Pringle here to day pretty day - Mr Matth herly here at work on chimney finished & begun to Pint it, Sam Roper moving to Jack Kelleys 3rd Mattherly Here & Lowry Here a little while Sam Roper began to move fixed to Kill Hogs tomorrow morning, Brot Flour from mill to day I went to Mount Airy to day cutting wood for Plant Bed on Road, - clear fine day -- 4 Killed 6 Hogs this morning weighing 848 [lbs] Lowry Helped Chris, Chris Killed 3 for himself Sam moving away from here to day [Put] out my 6 Hogs to day Salted Meat to day Halling wood &C &C -- Halled corn from Mr Templeton to day

1872 Decr 6th Burning Plant Bed on road next to Mr. Lewis's to day pretty day & warm 7th Decr. Nobody here to work yesterday cloudy this morning. & we are finishing our plant Bed My out Hogs not up this morning -- 2 of my Shoats has been Sick but has got well 8th Nannie & me went to meetting at S.S. pretty day Daniel R Hunt came here while we were gone & we did not see [???] 9th. Plowing & Halling leaves & wood & cutting windy [?????] Snowed Some this morning - I carried Nannie to See Mrs Coleman at G E. Coleman Kit Plowing with 2 Horses on Branch to day, 10 I Brought Nannie Home cold weather Mary & Sarah malling wood in new ground Milton Halling cloudy & likely for falling weather Chris Shoe= =making to day made Sarahs & about Miltons to night 11 Snowing this morning for a while Snow not more than ground covered malling Chris & Mary Milton & Sarah Halling wood not very cold to day 12th Decr Burning Log heaps Snowed a little last night cleared off this morning Jacob P Graves stayed here last night gone to Starkeys this morning -- 13th little more moderate Burning logs heaps in new ground last night very cold. 14th moderate day malling & Halling wood out of new ground to day clear day 15 I went to Prayer Meeting S S but very few there 16th Raining this morning, fixed place in old [prize] Barn to take down Tobacco this morning _ _ Chris has been Cutting & burning some Brush in new [ground] 17th Cutting & Malling wood to day Hauled up one stack fodder off mountin this morning. 18th I went to Mr Whiteheads yesterday cloudy all day this morning raining Snowing & freesing began to [raid] before I got Home last night, 19th Began to Hail & Rain about 12 oclock to -day [??] Done but little to day Still raining & hailing

1872 Decr 19th Sent Milton to Mill MIllers With Wheat & corn for Chris & he came back in the night Sent Chris after him & had got no meal nor flour at all & staid from 10 [clock] till in the night Chris & his Gang began to strip Tobacco yesterday pr memorandum & Terms in labor Book 20 Work striping to a little whiles in evening Chris Started to Mill at [2] oclock & has not come back yet 7 oclock Sam Roper Came here Ben & Lewis & began to Strip in new prize Barn about 11 oclock & striped till night 28 Sticks Tobacco Hung in that Barn of his 21st Sam Roper Striped some Tobacco to day Say yesterday & to day striped 33 Sticks [Lugs] & 8 or ten Stripted of Seconds finished all On ground Tier in new prize Barn & some little on 1 tier in middles Room, [of her], Mary Sarah Milton & Andrew hauling leaves in Stables Hog pen & 1 Load in farm Pen for Cows 5 Loads hauled in all Chris moved David Miller here to day to work with him the year 1873 to Receive the Same portion of his bargain with me in the plantation Croping as he gets himself, that is he Chris is to have half the corn wheat oats & Tobacco he makes on My plantations that half is to be divided in three parts Chris one third of that [half] David Miller one third & Sarah & Milton the other third of that half thats [their] bargain I have nothing to do with any of them but Chris Hubbard --- 23rd Very cold this morning cutting Hauling litewood up wood Halling wood _ clear this morning 24th Cloudy & like for Snow very cold Hauling some wood burning some Log Heaps Davy gone to Mill this morning --- 25 Hailing raining & freesing all day quite cold 26 Nannie Hurt Dead Mrs Wyatt & her Son Andrew left here this morning cloudy & cold
