the Cloverdale road — I feel a
little sore yet from my horseback

I never would have got back the same
day as the party who went were all
very tired and the trail was steep

The thermometer is 132° in the sun
92° in shade but we Keep comfortable
by doing nothing and sitting
by the brook I have just been
into a "deephole" (6 ft deep) in the
brook and had a delightful bath

We descended 1200 feet this morning
march and are now 1120 ft above
sea level. We shall ascend again
when we come to St. Helena mountain
I have charge of the Thermom. and
Barometer. This doesn't seem like
Sunday at all.
