South Yuba Water & Mining Co. Ledger Statement E - Water Sales

This collection consists of incomplete financial records for the South Yuba Water and Mining Company for the years 1880-1893, the majority being from 1883. They are primarily financial statements from the Nevada City office detailing expenditures (operating costs, payroll, etc.) and income from water sales. Also includes an annotated bill for legal services to establish the company from the New York firm of Sullivan and Cromwell. Statement E covers Sales of Water for the Month. The South Yuba Water and Mining Company was one of the many companies involved in the progression of gold rush era ditch companies to modern hydroelectric and irrigation projects. It was incorporated in New York City on April 1, 1880, by William B. Leonard, George R. Howell, and seven other New York capitalist to mine in Nevada and Placer counties, and to accumulate, store, distribute, and sell water in Sacramento, San Francisco, Placer, Nevada, San Joaquin, Alameda, Santa Clara, and San Mateo counties.
